Preventative Treatments

Cleanings and Exams
A professional cleaning every six months keeps your smile healthy. While you’re in our office, our dentist performs an exam to assess the overall health of your teeth and mouth.

Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride treatments ensure that teeth have the necessary amount of protection to defend against decay. They are an especially important part of children’s dental care.

Sealants
Sealants are a protective coating placed on the chewing or back teeth to help protect against decay.

Diagnostic Practices

Gum Treatments (Periodontics)
Sometimes brushing and routine cleaning isn’t enough to ensure that the area beneath your gum line remains healthy. We measure the pocket around the tooth to ensure it falls within healthy guidelines. We clean this area with root planing and scaling and sometimes the application of a local antibiotic.

X-rays
Periodic x-rays are an important part of a comprehensive exam. New patients are asked to get a complete set of x-rays at their first appointment. You may also bring x-rays from your previous dentist, or we can have them transferred for you.

Restorative Procedures

Root Canals
When the nerve inside of a tooth dies, or becomes infected, it is removed, and the inside of the tooth and roots are cleansed and shaped. The roots of the tooth are then filled with an inert rubber-type substance to seal them from fluids and bacteria.

Next, the tooth is usually restored with a filling, which may include a post and a crown to cover and protect the tooth from further damage.

A root canal does not have to be a painful, multi-appointment experience. With today's modern technology,  American Dental Service can often perform a root canal in one painless visit.

Crowns and Bridges
When teeth are heavily decayed, they may be too weak to survive with just a filling. By placing a crown, a tooth may be restored. If a single tooth is lost, a denture may not be necessary because a bridge can be made to span the gap.

Tooth Filling
When decay is present in a tooth, the affected area is removed and replaced with restorative material.

There are a variety of materials that can be used to fill a cavity including amalgam, composite or gold. Our dentist will discuss the options and help you to decide on the best choice for your individual situation.
