Fillings
Fillings are one of the most common procedures performed in
the dental office.
When decay is present in a tooth, the affected area must be
removed and filled with a suitable material. This prevents
the decay from spreading throughout the tooth and to other
teeth.
There are a variety of materials that can be used to fill
a cavity. Amalgam is the most cost effective material, however,
some patients are reluctant to use amalgam due to its silver
color. Modern composite materials are very effective when
esthetics are a concern because they can be shaded to match
the color of the patients teeth. Also gold is a desirable
alternative for fillings.
